Acutaas Chemicals Opens Pilot Plant with OEB 4 Containment at Surat

High-potency drugs — many oncology medicines among them — are active at tiny doses, which also makes them hazardous to the people who make them. Handling them safely needs dedicated containment, and that capacity is still scarce.

Acutaas Chemicals has inaugurated a new pilot plant at Unit 1, Sachin, Surat, to support research and development, new product trials and validations. The facility includes a dedicated area designed for Occupational Exposure Band (OEB) 4 containment, enabling the company to develop and scale up highly potent intermediates used to manufacture high-potency active pharmaceutical ingredients (HPAPIs).

What OEB 4 means Occupational exposure bands group compounds by how little of them a worker can safely be exposed to. OEB 4 covers highly potent materials, which call for closed handling and engineered containment rather than relying on protective equipment alone.

What it means for buyers

For pharma companies looking to source potent intermediates in India, every new containment-ready facility widens the supplier base. Buyers qualifying such suppliers should ask for containment verification data and exposure-monitoring results, not just a GMP certificate.
