Crop Care Federation Calls for a Balanced Agrochemical Policy

Farm productivity, soil health and a globally competitive agrochemical industry are often argued about as if they pull in opposite directions. The Crop Care Federation of India (CCFI) says they don't have to.

The industry body called for a balanced approach that combines agricultural productivity, soil health and environmental sustainability while strengthening India's agrochemical industry and exports. Participants in the discussion included Ram Nath Thakur, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, Agriculture Commissioner P. K. Singh and Shivraj Anand, Director & CEO – International Business, Parijat Industries.

The asks included: • Predictable product registration timelines • Harmonisation of OECD-GLP data requirements • Incentives for green chemistry • Stronger product traceability and quality standards • Co-development with global innovators of safer, lower-dose molecules • Development of biological crop protection solutions

The discussion also covered responsible use of pesticides and fertilisers to protect soil and human health, pest resistance management and climate-related challenges.

What it means for the trade

Predictable registration is the single biggest lever for Indian agrochemical makers planning new molecules and exports. Any movement on timelines or GLP data harmonisation would shorten the path from development to market.
