Chemical Stocks Rally Up to 20% on Hopes of Strong September-Quarter Results

Chemical shares had a strong session on 6 October on hopes of a strong set of September-quarter results, "thanks to better product realisation".

Balaji Amines rose 20% to its upper circuit at ₹2,349.30. Gujarat Fluorochemicals gained 3.22% to ₹4,572.60, Deepak Nitrite 3% to ₹1,542, Aarti Industries 2.93% to ₹484.65 and Atul 2.39% to ₹5,996. SRF, Vinati Organics, Navin Fluorine and Sudarshan Chemical rose up to 1%.

Elara Securities was more selective: "We see the cleanest Q2 earnings momentum in Deepak Nitrite, Aarti Industries and for fluorochemicals – SRF, FLUOROCH and NFIL. We expect a weaker sequential print from amines names." It expects strong year-on-year recovery at Deepak Nitrite, SRF, Aarti Industries, Navin Fluorine, Gujarat Fluorochemicals and Sudarshan Chemical, and sequential pressure at Alkyl Amines, Balaji Amines, Atul and Vinati Organics.

On raw materials, Elara noted: "Ammonia and methanol have corrected sequentially, but sulphur, sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, and fluorspar remain elevated."

What it means for buyers and suppliers

"Better product realisation" means producers are getting higher prices. Buyers of nitro, fluoro and specialty intermediates should not expect quick price cuts this quarter. With sulphuric, hydrochloric and nitric acid still elevated, makers that depend on these inputs will try to pass costs on, while amine buyers may find more room to negotiate.
