Deepak Chem Tech Commissions ₹300 Crore Chlorination and Specialty Chemicals Plant at Dahej

Chlorination is one of those unglamorous chemistries that sits quietly upstream of an enormous range of products — from agrochemical and pharma intermediates to dyes and polymers. India just added more of it.

Deepak Chem Tech Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Deepak Nitrite, has commissioned a new chlorination and specialty chemicals manufacturing facility at Dahej, Gujarat, with an investment of about ₹300 crore. The plant expands the company's capability in chlorination-based products and specialty chemicals, including downstream value-added products.

The company said the facility "will help the company respond to growing demand for specialised chemical products while creating opportunities to develop additional value-added downstream products." It supports the group's strategy to broaden its specialty chemicals portfolio, strengthen domestic manufacturing and expand downstream capabilities. Plant capacity and the product list were not disclosed.

What it means for buyers

More domestic chlorination capacity gives formulators and intermediate buyers another Indian option for products that are often imported. New plants usually ramp up over several quarters — a good time for buyers to start qualification trials and request samples and certificates of analysis while the producer is building its customer base.
