GSFC Invites Partners for a 5 Lakh Tonne Green Ammonia Plant at Sikka, Jamnagar

Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals (GSFC) has invited expressions of interest from Indian and international companies, consortia and investors to form a joint venture for green ammonia.

The proposed plant would make 5,00,000 tonnes of green ammonia a year at GSFC's Sikka Unit in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

What GSFC brings is the site. Sikka already has a dedicated jetty for vessels of up to 33,000 deadweight tonnes with a 10.5 metre draft, 30,000 tonnes of refrigerated ammonia storage at the Sikka Shore Terminal, a pipeline of about 8–10 km from the terminal to the plant, and land identified for expansion.

What it wants from a partner is capital, access to technology, project-development experience, and firm links with overseas green ammonia buyers — particularly in Europe, Japan and South Korea.

The report notes that progress will depend on partner selection, project economics, technology choices, regulatory approvals and final investment decisions.

What it means for buyers and suppliers

This is an invitation for partners, not an investment decision, so no new ammonia supply should be counted on yet. For equipment makers, electrolyser suppliers and engineering firms it is an early signal to watch; ammonia buyers should simply note that Sikka's existing jetty and storage make it one of the more practical green ammonia sites in India.
